Why Monochromatic Bedroom Design is the Trend You Need to Try
Bedding idea: from white bedding to tan linen bedding
For a long time, I had a simple white bedding and was content with it, but as time went on I wanted a more elevated layered bedding look. When my bed came it had a creamy white upholstered headboard, and my white bedding just looked too stark against the off-white bed. It was time to invest in quality bedding, with decorative through pillows and throw blankets.
How to layer bedding for a designer look
To layer bedding for a designer look you will need the following items:
– Pillows
You will need three types of pillows: king or queen pillows (that you will sleep on), king/queen or Euro pillows for layering, and 20×20 decorative throw pillow inserts.
– Shams
You will need 2 shams to match your sheets for the pillows you will sleep on, 2 different shams for decorative pillows, and 2-3 shams for the throw pillows. Throw pillows are a great way to add a pop of color to your bedroom.
– Fitted and flat sheet
You will want to buy a set so that the fitted sheet and pillow shams match.
You can go for a white insert comforter and a duvet, or a finished-look comforter.
– Throw Blanket
You can use a throw blanket to fold at the foot of the bed. A throw blanket is an easy way to add a pop of color to your bed.
King-size vs Euro pillows for the layered look
Should you use Euro size (26×26) or king/queen size pillows for your second layer of the pillows? It really is your preference. I tried both Euro and king pillows and added them side-to-side for comparison.
I ended up using an extra large king euro pillow for the insert. It gave my pillows a perkier, fuller look.
How to match throw pillows to your bedding
Throw pillows are an easy way to introduce bold colors. You can do different patterns, but you want the color to work together. For example, if you are going for muted, earthy tones in your bedding, the throw pillows can be gray, mustard, or copper.
I found these velvet pillows with linen borders with matched my duvet exactly. I choose to go with black, but they come in other bright colors.
