Design goals for the girls’ bedroom
When designing this girls’ bedroom for sisters with an age gap, my goal was for each sister to feel like it was designed just for her. I wanted for décor to feel timeless and sophisticated for a 10-year-old going on 13 and for her baby sister.
These were my goals as I began designing: timeless design, uniform look, and suitable for both girl’s ages.

A girls’ bedroom inspired by Restoration Hardware style
When looking for design inspiration, dream as if the sky is the limit. Don’t be limited by an expense. You can recreate that look for less.
My design process began with looking for inspiration. I wanted the girls’ bedroom to be calming and beautiful.
I liked Restoration Hardware’s style and esthetic. Neutral tones and textures layered with mixed-in pink.
A bedroom that reflects the ages of both girls
I have two daughters born 9 years apart that share a room. My goal was to create a bedroom on a budget, that would be suitable for both an almost teenager and a soon-to-be toddler.
Create a uniform look with paint
First I painted the walls a little darker gray than the rest of my house.
I chose to go with SW 1015 Skyline Steel to create a contrast for the light cream and white furniture that I was choosing.
I know that some people, when working on siblings shared bedrooms, visually create separate areas for each child. I wanted to do the opposite. I wanted the room to feel cohesive.
Finding beds with similar headboards
I chose beds with headboards that had similar shapes and were both light creamy color.
I’ve also purchased 2 of the same nightstands to further unify the room.
Create individual areas based on kids’ needs
A crib and a place to sit and read for the baby
I found this little sofa pet bed (I know! lol) at Home Goods and it was perfect for the girls. It’s low enough for the toddler to climb on and wide enough for the preteen to sit one. It’s comfortable for both of them.
A bed and a reading lamp for the preteen. She likes to read in bed before falling asleep, so a little bed light was a perfect solution for her. She is able to reach it and turn it off without leaving the bed.
Because there was no room for the dresser in the bedroom, I choose a storage bed. It has drawers on both sides of the bed and provides plenty of storage.
Conclusion
I liked how the girls’ bedroom turned out. It was super functional and felt serene, just like I envisioned.
In conclusion, creating a Restoration Hardware-inspired bedroom for sisters is not just about recreating a luxurious and stylish space, but also about nurturing a strong bond and sense of sisterhood. By following the principles of simplistic elegance, functionality, and personalization, this project can bring joy, creativity, and comfort to sisters of all ages. So go ahead, gather paint swatches, search for the perfect bedding, and have fun creating a space that will not only be envied by others, but cherished and loved by the sisters who will call it their own.
