If your home is older than 10 years old, the chances are that you’ve got halogen bulbs in your can lights.  Halogen recessed lighting is still a popular option with many builders in the south.  Replacing old halogen light bulbs with new LED can lights will allow you to update the look and feel of the entire house, as well as offer energy savings.

Familiar sight? Let’s replace them!

Why replace the halogen bulb with an LED

Here are a few reasons why you would want to replace your halogen bulb with LED

  • The trim piece often gets yellow with time
  • Halogen bulbs take time to heat up and reach their full brightness capacity
  • Halogen bulbs give out yellow light
  • Replacing the LED light will remove the old yellowing trim piece and will give your whole house an updated look.

Benefits of LED lighting

  • LED saves energy
  • LED gives out crisp, natural light
  • LED has a longer life expectancy

However, when we began installing the new can lights we ran into a problem.

There was nothing to attach the new LED lights too. That situation left us “hanging” because the lights literarily were not attached by anything expect the wire.

Even if we pushed in the new light, it looked like this:

Until we found a kit that solved the issue for us:

You will need this Dewalt Attachment to screw the clip into place:

Using these tools we were able to replace our old halogen lights with LED and secure the new can lights in place.

Replacing halogen lights in our house has made a huge difference in the light quality and overall feel in the house. We would defiantly recommend this simple project if you are looking to update your house.
